About UNLEASH lutruwita / Tasmania

We aim to UNLEASH the potential of 200 young leaders of islands in our region to positively foster cross-border collaboration, drive innovation and cultivate sustainable solutions for ongoing resilience and prosperity of our islands communities for our generation, and for future generations.

The UNLEASH Regional Lab is an unprecedented opportunity to confront the critical climate challenges gripping the islands in our region. Bringing together 200 dynamic young leaders from islands in the Pacific region, UNLEASH transcends cultural and geographical boundaries, serving as a global platform for innovative problem-solving. Through the UNLEASH Innovation Process run across a five day week, the lab creates a shared space for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the development of new methodologies. This collective approach is pivotal for addressing pressing global issues effectively – and this regional lab will look specifically at the unique opportunities and challenges that islands face.

lutruwita / Tasmania serves as an ideal backdrop for the lab, with a commitment to export renewable electricity to the rest of Australia and progress towards fully embracing the Sustainable Development Goals. The lab seeks to unite island communities across the Pacific, including those facing similar environmental challenges, to foster collaboration, share knowledge, and co-develop solutions for a sustainable future. This initiative underscores the crucial role of island ecosystems in the global environmental narrative. The UNLEASH Lab’s regional focus encompasses Tasmania and the broader island community across the Pacific region, connecting across these islands, identifying and implementing immediate solutions for these vulnerable locations.

Ideal candidates for participation are individuals aged 18 to 35 from diverse sectors, including academia, private, and public sectors, who embody energy, collaboration, and a readiness for change. The lab experience is designed to facilitate collaboration, learning, and collective innovation, emphasising community improvement and exploration of new ideas within defined thematic tracks.

To make access to the lab as equitable as possible, we are seeking partners to bring this event to life and to cover all participation costs (including flights, accommodation, meals and associated expenses) so that the costs do not prevent the right people from being involved and getting to Tasmania. The University of Tasmania has already come on board to support the event through hosting the innovation process in their campuses in Launceston and Hobart, and conversations are well underway with the Tasmanian Government along with other significant businesses and industry organisations to strengthen the local commitment.

Support of UNLEASH lutruwita / Tasmania offers a unique opportunity for companies and institutions to actively contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals, aligning with one of the world’s leading sustainable platforms. Engaging with UNLEASH means more than just supporting a good cause—it’s about driving concrete action for global progress, particularly in this crucial region. Supporters can showcase their commitment to sustainability by integrating innovative perspectives and knowledge of emerging leaders into their organisations, positioning themselves as sustainability leaders in the Pacific community and benefit from the following;

  • Driving Global Change: Supporters can align with the imperative for sustainable solutions, demonstrating commitment to real-world problem-solving and innovation.
  • Empowering Energetic Innovators: Supporting the lab uplifts individuals poised to make a difference, equipping them with skills, tools, and knowledge that will be deployed across the entire region.
  • Building Meaningful Relationships: Engagement fosters lasting relationships and networks across the Pacific region, creating partnerships that extend beyond the lab for collective action.
  • Learning and Contributing to Solutions: Supporters can immerse themselves in island communities’ challenges, contributing to and learning from innovative solutions.
  • Enhancing Brand Association with Sustainability: Active involvement allows companies to align their brand authentically with sustainability, amplifying their commitment in the eyes of a global audience.

In essence, participation in UNLEASH Tasmania is not merely an investment in the lab itself but a strategic alignment with future-focused, sustainable innovation, fostering a global community of change-makers. UNLEASH’s comprehensive approach to capacity building and global networking ensures participants leave equipped to address communal challenges, becoming part of an expansive global community dedicated to impactful innovation across the entire region. This strategic choice emphasizes the lab’s role as a catalyst for collective solutions, transcending geographical and climatic differences to create a more sustainable for island communities.
